Nicki Nabasny

Principal & Founder

Nicki Nabasny founded Beleza Advisors in 2021 and has spent more than 20 years advancing higher education institutions as a strategist and senior administrator. She has served as chief of staff, chief innovation and strategy officer, associate dean for development and executive director of communications in multiple institutions.

Prior to founding Beleza Advisors, Nicki managed strategic projects and innovation at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She partnered with the dean, faculty and other senior leaders to transform the staff organization and innovate the admissions function, resulting in significant budget savings and the most diverse MBA class in Kellogg’s history. Previously, Nicki spent eight years at the University of Chicago at the Harris School of Public Policy and the Office of the Provost. With the Provost she oversaw a large-scale effort to reimagine PhD education, managing the implementation and communications of the project. She also provided strategic and leadership capacity to The Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflicts at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, including supporting the launch of the Institute and executing large-scale conferences in Belfast, Berlin and Chicago. Nicki managed Harris’s development operations during the two most successful fundraising years in the school’s history.

Before moving to Chicago, Nicki spent eight years at the University of San Francisco, where she worked in university advancement overseeing fundraising for the School of Management and School of Nursing, in addition to managing the University’s donor relations and prospect discovery teams.

Nicki holds a BA in Spanish and BS in political science from Santa Clara University. She earned a master’s of nonprofit administration (MNA) from University of San Francisco where she authored a thesis exploring the impact of online giving tools and engagement on annual funds. She also holds a doctor of education (EdD) from University of San Francisco, where her dissertation focused on higher education leadership.

Nicki founded Beleza Advisors because she believes deeply in the power of higher education and nonprofits to change people’s lives. A scholarship recipient at Santa Clara University, she experienced first-hand the transformative impact of getting an education that she could not have afforded without the generosity of others. She lives in Chicago with her husband and their three amazing, energetic kids. You can usually find her and her family on the sidelines of a kid’s sports game, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, or on a lake.

Marisa Quinn

Senior Advisor

Marisa A. Quinn is founder and principal of Conanicut Strategies, LLC, a consulting practice that serves mission-driven clients at the intersections of strategy, public affairs, policy development, strategic planning and communications. Marisa brings extensive experience in the public and non-profit sectors, focusing primarily on higher education.

She spent 22 years at Brown University, where she served in a variety of roles that supported the effective leadership of the University’s most senior officers, including as assistant to President Ruth J. Simmons, vice president for public affairs and university, and most recently as chief of staff to Provost Richard M. Locke. 

Marisa began her career as a legislative aide to US Senator Claiborne Pell on the Subcommittee on Education, Arts and the Humanities.  She subsequently served as policy advisor to New Jersey Governor James J. Florio; public affairs specialist at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; and chief of communications and public information at the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in political science and earned a master’s degree from the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University.   She is currently chair of the Rhode Island Ethics Commission and a board member of Trinity Repertory Company. 

Katherine Lowe Urban

Senior Advisor

Katherine Urban holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Pennsylvania and has pursued extensive post-baccalaureate studies in Education, Management and Communication, and Applied Positive Psychology at Penn.

She is a passionate and creative educator, facilitator, coach, and mentor, dedicated to energizing organizations and inspiring individuals to maximize their potential. With over 35 years of experience in higher education, including more than 17 years in Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Pennsylvania, Katherine served as the Director of Professional Development, Learning, and Education. In this role, she provided strategic and operational leadership, identifying developmental needs and opportunities, and creating a comprehensive professional development program for over 600 staff members.

Katherine has extensive experience in designing and facilitating impactful, assessment-based programs focused on management and leadership skills, executive coaching, communication, talent management, fundraising, and team building. Her teaching and facilitation background spans undergraduate courses, corporate settings, and non-profit environments. She has developed training and professional development workshops for the Council for the Support and Advancement of Education (CASE) and Grenzebach, Glier and Associates (GG+A).

In 2020, Katherine co-founded Urban Collaborative Enterprises with Mike Urban. Their mission is to empower teams to work collaboratively, think creatively, and succeed collectively. They specialize in customizing training to ensure that the content and delivery meet the unique needs and expected outcomes of each organization they serve.

Alex Mestre

Analyst

Alex began his career as a management consultant at Bain & Company in Chicago, Illinois. During his time at Bain, Alex developed a strong foundation in business strategy and data analytics while advising clients across a wide range of industries and functions. 

After two years, Alex joined the Archdiocese of Chicago to apply his consulting skillset at one of the largest nonprofits in the Midwest. Over three and a half years, Alex led strategy through implementation for some of the Archdiocese’s largest initiatives. Alex frequently interfaced with C-Suite executives while also leading more than a dozen cross-functional teams with broader-than-typical backgrounds.  

Alex holds a B.S. in Accounting and International Business from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He is currently a dual degree student at Northwestern University pursuing an MBA at the Kellogg School of Management and an MS in Design Innovation at the McCormick School of Engineering. 

Jessica Scarpino, PMP

Project Manager

Jessica Scarpino has 15+ years of experience leading and managing business operations, building and growing teams, and improving how people, processes, and technology work together. She has served as chief of staff, executive project manager and director of operations for a global business and technology consulting leader, Slalom. She drove company-wide initiatives as the business scaled to become a global consulting competitor and a best place to work, growing from 400 to 13,000 team members over the course of her tenure.

Following Slalom, Jessica served as the interim operations leader for a Seattle-based non-profit. Jessica graduated from the University of Iowa with her B.A. in Theatre Arts Management and Business Administration. She’s passionate about bringing her ‘art and science’ experience to nonprofits and organizations that need additional perspective and support, focusing on translating big-picture strategy into tangible actions and coaching teams through change. 

Jessica enjoys helping leadership teams find their own rhythm, believing the journey is just as important as the destination. Her leadership style focuses on fostering an empathetic and inclusive community where everyone can be their authentic selves.
